Piccadilly Puppets is a proud recipient of funding from the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs! We provide puppet performances throughout the City of Atlanta, and the funds help us to cover some expenses, so that we can keep our shows affordable. Funding also enables us to offer discounts to schools that receive Title One funding and other venues in those neighborhoods (such as libraries), and occasionally offer free shows in underserved parts of the city.

Thank you so much to the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs for helping us to educate and entertain children in Atlanta through the art of puppetry!

Puppet Palooza September 24

Puppet Palooza is a fabulous afternoon filled with puppet shows and puppet activities! It will take place Sunday, September 24 from 1:00-5:00pm at the Clarkston Community Center

Some of Atlanta’s top puppeteers will perform short pieces in a variety style show. Shows will be ongoing throughout the day, along with puppet-making and other games for kids. There will be all kinds of interesting puppets and puppet-related items for sale, as well as concessions.

Featuring:

  • Performances by That Puppet Guy, Piccadilly Puppets, Paulette Richards, Kiera Robbins, Jane Schindler and InJest Puppets
  • Puppet making workshop sponsored by the Center for Puppetry Arts
  • Games for children

Tickets may be purchased at the door or at the link below: $10 adults, $5 children.

Proceeds go to the Atlanta Puppetry Guild, a local chapter of the Puppeteers of America, an organization that promotes the art of puppetry. The Atlanta Puppetry Guild gives local puppeteers and anyone interested in the art form a chance to meet, share ideas, and support one another. One way we do this is through offering scholarships to members to further their craft. Puppet Palooza is a fundraiser for the guild scholarship fund; a percentage of the proceeeds also goes to the Clarkston Community Center.

Summer’s not gone!

Celebrate at the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival! Come on Sunday! Free!GPSSFHeader201703-1We will be performing Butterfly Ballad at 1:00 pm on Sunday, August 27 in the Kids Zone. The festival also has two music stages, an Artist Market, a 5K, and lots of food vendors, as well as more kids’ activities.

Puppet Camp in July!

What: One week Puppetry camp

Who: Children ages 6-10

Where: Johns Creek Presbyterian Church

When: July 10-14, 9-3 each day

How much: $265 for members of the Johns Creek Arts Center, $285 for non-members

Get a taste of both visual and performing arts with a week of puppet camp! Campers will learn about the different types of puppetry, make 2-3 puppets and write short scripts based on familiar folktales or myths. Instruction on puppet manipulation and rehearsal led by a professional puppeteer from Piccadilly Puppets will prepare the class to put on a fun original puppet show!

Butterflies for Earth Day! Public shows April 22 & 29

April 22, City of Newnan Cities in the Mix Family Earth Day Celebration in Greenville Street Park: Show at 11:45am

A free event sponsored by The City of Newnan and ChildrenConnect: Newnan Children’s Museum in the Greenville Street Park located in historic downtown Newnan. Families can enjoy a live DJ playing family friendly music and local food trucks will be on hand serving tasty treats. Food trucks will have varying costs. Piccadilly Puppets will present Butterfly Ballad onstage at 11:45 AM. The Coweta County Master Gardener Volunteers will be there to teach kids about native butterflies and plants. Bubbles and Brushes will have face painting. There will also be a petting zoo and the Monkey Joes mascot.

We will be performing Cherokee Tales at 2:00 PM. There will be lots of other fun activities for children.

Piccadilly Puppets received funding for 2016 from the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, through the guidance of the Fulton County Arts Council. With this help, we provided 63 shows and workshops throughout all six Fulton county districts and performed for almost 4000 people in Fulton alone. We performed for schools, libraries, festivals and many other events. We were able to perform in underserved neighborhoods at reduced prices, and introduced our “Pop-up Show” performed out of our  Puppet van!

These grants benefit not only our organization, but more importantly YOU, as our audience. Please join us in thanking the Board of Commissioners and the Arts Council. If you live in Fulton and enjoy the arts, please let your Commissioner know!

 

Atlanta Parent’s Family Festival

We’ll be at some fun events in October, including the Botanical Gardens in Gainesville and the Briar Patch Festival in Eatonton, both October 29. Check back soon for the details on those and hopefully one more! Meanwhile, read on about the festival October 8:

We’ll be performing Imagination Station at noon on the Storytelling Stage. There are tons of activities for kids! Tickets are only $5 when purchased in advance online! ($10 at the gate)

We are taking part in two fun events this month: Cool Kids Read at Southlake Mall on Saturday, September 17, and Atlanta Streets Alive in Virginia-Highland on Sunday, September 25. We hope you can attend one (or both!) or them.

We will perform CHEROKEE TALES  at 5:15 pm on Saturday, September 17.

Organized by Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, our third Atlanta Streets Alive (ASA) of the year will take place on Sunday, September 25th from 2pm-6pm. Come celebrate four Eastside neighborhoods on North Highland, Highland Ave, and Boulevard!

We’ll close the streets to cars and open them to people. Bring your bicycle or your feet, and get ready to explore your community streets in a safer, healthier, more livable way.

Though you may “start” anywhere along the route, the kickoff will happen at Virginia Ave & North Highland Ave. The Atlanta Streets Alive Bicycle Parade will line up at 1:30 at this location, and roll down the route at 2pm.

The Piccadilly Puppets Van will be parked along the route! We will perform short pop-up shows, strolling puppetry, and interactive activities.

Piccadilly Puppets receives Fulton County grant!

Piccadilly Puppets is happy to announce that we have received funding for 2016 from the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, through the guidance of the Fulton County Arts Council. Fulton County is the leading public funder for the arts in the State of Georgia. We are thankful that our county understands the importance of the arts to our community. Our grant from the Fulton County Arts Council supplements our main source of income, which is the fees we charge for performances. This enables us to hire skilled, professional puppeteers and pay them a competitive wage, while still keeping our prices affordable to most groups. We can also give back to the community through occasional discounted or even free performances in Fulton County. Through the application and review process and final reports, the arts council also helps us to set goals, to meet artistic standards, to be financially responsible, and to be held accountable for the way we spent the funds at the end of each year. These grants benefit not only our organization, but more importantly YOU, as our audience. Please join us in thanking the Board of Commissioners and the Arts Council. Grant Park Summer Shade Festival

Piccadilly Puppets will back in the Zone at the Summer Shade Festival – the Kids Zone, that is!

On Sunday, August 28, we will perform Cherokee Tales at noon. We will also have a tent with paper puppet-making all day – from 11am to 7pm! The full schedule will be posted on the festival website soon. See you at Grant Park!
