Support from Fulton County in 2021!
Piccadilly Puppets is very grateful to the Fulton County Board of Commissioners for their support in 2021, through the guidance of the Fulton County Arts Council!
Like the FCAC, we believe the arts are essential to the quality of life of our citizens and to the economic and social health of our communities – even (or especially) during a pandemic. The mission of the Fulton County Department of Arts and Culture is to insure all citizens’ access to the arts. By supporting us financially, they are helping us bring our educational entertainment to every district of the county. Support from the county helps us to pay our puppeteers, other artists and staff, as well as the costs of traveling from one end of the county to the other, while still keeping our prices low. Funds from the county also subsidize a few shows for other non-profits, so that we can perform for children with disabilities or those experiencing homelessness, for example. Some funds were also used for puppets and props for our new version of Cherokee Tales.

Cherokee Tales updated and available for in-person performances!
Sequoyah teaches students about Cherokee culture and history, including his famous syllabary. With the help of puppets and audience volunteers, the puppeteer/storyteller recounts Cherokee myths about the creation of Cherokee land and how the brave Spider brought fire to the animals. Then the students learn about the Trail of Tears and more. Optional section about the seven clans. This new version was written by playwright Kara Morrison, an enrolled member of the Waccamaw Siouan tribe and a descendant of the Cherokee Nation.
CHEROKEE TALES– preK-4th grade, 30-45 minutes. Hand and Rod puppets.
Butterfly Ballad in Little Nancy Creek Park

Developed originally for the Callaway Gardens Butterfly Center, this story follows Katy and Kevin Caterpillar through the stages of their lives – from egg, to caterpillar, to chrysalis, to butterfly – and their fascinating migration to Mexico. Narrated by Mother Nature, with original music, rod and hand puppets. Recommended for ages 3-8, but you can bring the younger toddlers to this one; they can go play if they are not engaged!

With restrictions easing and our puppeteers vaccinated, we are doing more in-person shows and have added in-person workshops back into the mix. We are still offering virtual shows, too!
Virginia-Highland Porchfest is Saturday!
This is a fun, free event with a ton of music AND a puppet show! We will be performing Butterfly Ballad at 4:00 at 901 Virginia Circle. There will be 54 bands on 40 porches and a Food Truck Alley. The music is from noon-6 PM.

New film of Cherokee Tales!
Piccadilly Puppets has a great new way to bring educational fun to your Social Studies unit on the Cherokee nation. Kara Morrison, a southeastern playwright of Cherokee heritage, has helped us to rewrite our puppet show, Cherokee Tales, and we have filmed a 15-minute version that you can share with your students now!
In this updated virtual puppet show, Sequoyah teaches students about Cherokee culture and history. The storyteller uses tabletop hand and rod puppets to tell Cherokee myths about the creation of Cherokee land and how the brave Spider brought fire to the animals. Then the students learn about the Trail of Tears with the help of shadow puppetry. This 15-minute version is appropriate for grades preK4-2nd.
After your students watch the video, we can join them for a live chat through Zoom or the platform of your choice to demonstrate the puppets and answer questions, if you choose.

The puppet van is no longer available, but we are still performing outdoors, indoors and virtually!
Unfortunately, we had an accident in the puppet van. No puppets or puppeteers were harmed, but due to its age and high mileage, our insurance company declared the van a total loss. We’re sorry to say that we cannot offer shows from the back of the van for the near future. We do offer almost all of our shows outdoors, though, and Atlanta weather in the fall is usually great, so bring us to your birthday party, childcare, etc! We can also do virtual shows or lessons for schools and religious groups even if you are not meeting in person.
